Welcome to Boring Studio.

We deal in comics and collectables. These terms cover everything you buy from shop.boringstudio.co.za, so it’s worth a read before you order.

This store is operated by Boring Studio, in Cape Town, South Africa. In these terms, “we”, “us” and “our” mean that business, and “you” means you, the customer.

1. Purpose

This site sells comic books and related collectables to collectors, and shares information about new stock, restocks and the occasional thing we find interesting.

2. Purchases

All orders are placed through our online store. Prices are shown in South African Rand.

Placing an order is an offer to buy. A contract of sale comes into effect only once we confirm your order has been dispatched. Until then we may decline or cancel an order and refund you in full, for example if:

  • the item has already sold (most of our stock is single copies, so two people can occasionally reach the same book at once);
  • a price or description was published in error; or
  • we can’t verify the payment or delivery details.

Payment is processed by a third-party payment provider over a secure connection.
We never see or store your full card details.

3. Condition and descriptions

Condition is the product, so we describe it carefully.

Every item is inspected and listed with condition notes and photographs. Where a comic has been professionally graded, we list the grading company, the grade and the page quality as they appear on the label.

Grading of ungraded books is our own assessment, made in good faith and to recognised standards. It’s a judgement, not a measurement, and reasonable collectors sometimes differ by a fraction of a grade. Please read the notes and look at the photographs before you buy, and ask us if anything is unclear.

Screens vary, so colours in photographs may not exactly match the item.

4. Shipping

We currently ship within South Africa only. Available options:

  • Collection by arrangement. We’ll let you know when your order is ready.
  • Courier / Locker options, e.g. PUDO locker-to-locker, Postnet branch-to-branch, The Courier Guy door-to-door

All options are tracked, and we send tracking details once your order is dispatched. Shipping is calculated at checkout based on the option you choose.

Orders are packed weekly and typically arrive within 2-3 working days of dispatch. Those timings are estimates from our couriers, not guarantees.

Comics are packed rigid and moisture-protected. If something arrives damaged anyway, see the Refunds and Returns Policy.

Risk in the goods passes to you on delivery, or on collection.

5. Refunds and returns

You have a legal right to cancel most online orders within 7 days of delivery, and separate rights if an item arrives damaged, incorrect or not as described.

6. Privacy

We collect only what we need to process your order, and we don’t sell your data. How we handle your personal information, and the rights you have over it under POPIA, are set out in our Privacy Policy.

7. Acceptable use

Please don’t use this site to break the law, interfere with its operation, or scrape it wholesale. We may refuse service or cancel orders where we reasonably believe an account is being used fraudulently.

8. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. When we do, we’ll change the date at the top of this page and post the new version here.

Changes take effect when posted and are not retroactive: the terms that apply to your order are the ones published when you placed it.

9. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of South Africa. Nothing here limits any right you have under the Consumer Protection Act 68 of 2008, the Electronic Communications and Transactions Act 25 of 2002, or the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013.

If any part of these terms is found to be unenforceable, the rest still applies.
